Juniors
The sun was shining on an incredible day for the junior finals this year! An amazing afternoon to round off a fantastic tournament. The weather was topped only by the amazing efforts and tennis on display from our juniors. The afternoon started with two fantastic matches, the 14&U boy’s doubles, and the first of the 10&U singles matches. Following this was the 14&U girl’s doubles (perhaps the quietest match we’ve ever had at Hatton!), the second of the 10&U singles, and the 18&U boy’s singles (Which ended up being the last match to finish after over 2.5 hours!). Finally, the last matches went on court with the 14&U boy’s singles, 14&U girl’s singles, and the final 10&U match. The 18&U boy’s doubles was played at a later date however it was an equally exciting match!
The final results are as follows:
10&U Singles: Winner – Anya, Runner up – Josh, 3rd – Luke
14&U Girl’s Singles: Winner – Mairi, Runner up – Evie (6-1 6-1)
14&U Boy’s Singles: Winner – Seth, Runner up – Rory (6-2 6-3)
14&U Girl’s Doubles: Winners – Mairi & Vina, Runner up – Evie & Darcey (6-0 6-1)
14&U Boy’s Doubles: Winners – Seth & Daniel, Runner up – Calvin & Rory (6-0 6-1)
18&U Boy’s Singles: Winner – Lewis, Runner up – Yanick (5-7 7-6(5) 12-10)
18&U Boy’s Doubles: Winners – Lewis & Yanick, Runner up – Louis & Reuben (6-0 6-2)
All of the matches were brilliant to watch, and special thanks to everyone who came down to support the players!
Seniors
Following the junior finals on Saturday, the seniors took to the courts on Sunday. The day started with the Open Men’s doubles, Ladies’ Over 50 Singles, and the Men’s over 50 Singles. All three courts were a brilliant show of great sportsmanship and skill. Following this the Ladies’ Singles and Men’s Doubles put on a fantastic display, again demonstrating the depth of talent we have at our club! The last round of matches saw the Men’s Singles and Ladies’ Open Doubles rounding off the day.
The results of the senior events were as follows:
Ladies’ Singles: Winner – Shaylin, Runner Up – Lucy (6-4 6-3)
Men’s Singles: Winner – Phil, Runner Up – Euan (6-3 7-6)
Ladies’ Open Doubles: Winners – Shaylin & Lucy, Runner up – Caroline & Sybil (6-1 6-2)
Men’s Open Doubles: Winners – Phil & Eoin, Runner up – Louis & Jack (6-4 6-4)
Men’s Doubles: Winners – Malcolm & Graeme, Runner up – Steve & Neil (0-6 6-3 10-2)
Ladies’ Over 50 Singles: Winner – Caroline, Runner up – Sybil (6-4 6-2)
Men’s Over 50 Singles: Winner – Malcolm, Runner up – Graeme (6-3 6-2)
Unfortunately we couldn’t play all of the finals on the Sunday, with the Mixed doubles being played on the Saturday evening, and the Ladies’ Doubles and Mixed Doubles 90 needing to be played at later dates due to scheduling difficulties on the Sunday. The Ladies’ Doubles has since been played, with these results below:
Mixed Doubles: Winners – Shaylin & Jack, Runner up – Mairi & Daniel
Ladies Doubles: Winners – Sandra & Margo, Runner up – Sheena & Pamela
The Mixed doubles 90 final is yet to be played, however it would be great to get a crowd down to support those players!
Mixed Doubles 90 final: Sandra & Malcolm vs Caroline & Lee
The Hatton Padel Club Championships 2024 were a great success with 3 events held over the summer competing for the brand-new trophies. The story of finals day was undoubtedly Sandra McBride who played in the finals of all 3 events. Some great padel was on display throughout the day. Thanks to all players who competed in this year’s events and congratulations to the winners. Full results can be found below.
Hatton Padel Open 7-6 7-5

Thank you
As always, thank you to everyone who took part and who made an effort to arrange matches quickly (it makes organising these much easier!). Thanks also to everyone who contributed something to the food table over the weekend, it was incredibly well received and definitely gave the players the energy they needed! Special thanks must also go to Karen Davidson for helping to make all of the tennis draws and partnerships, as well as to Dave Blamire for coming along on the Sunday to present the prizes to the finalists.
Although this year’s championships were filled with such amazing matches and the courts were so busy with people playing, in future years it might be a good idea to play the junior events in September, so that people are back at school and people don’t need to worry as much about disrupting holiday plans to play matches. It would also be good to spread the senior finals over the weekend. With the number of events on offer now (including padel), it is a lot to fit into one day and it would relieve a bit of pressure on people playing in multiple finals if these could be spread out a bit more. I’m happy to take suggestions/comments on this!
Once again thank you to everyone who took part and helped organise!
Matty and Craig
