2023 Tennis Club Championships

It was a fantastic show on Finals Day this year. The outstanding weather was topped only by the matches on offer and the delicious array of cakes and snacks kindly donated by those who came down to support. The results are as follows:
Ladies’ Doubles – Winners: Michelle McCool & Caroline Newton, Runners up: Sheena Orr & Yvonne McCraith-Smith
Men’s Doubles – Winners: Daniel Baldwin & Craig McBride, Runners up: Andrew McCool & Colin McLean
Ladies’ Over 50’s Singles – Winner: Caroline Newton, Runner up: Sybil Booth
Men’s Over 50’s Singles – Winner: Steven Dunn, Runner up: David MacDonald
Mixed Doubles – Winners: Jess Rae & Eoin Swan, Runners up: Shaylin Holt & Matty Douglas
Ladies’ Open Doubles – Winners: Alanna Coombe & Shaylin Holt, Runners up: Lilliana McFarlane & Jess Rae
Men’s Open Doubles – Winners: Bob Ainsley & Eoin Swan, Runners up: Matty Douglas & Jack Walker
Ladies’ Singles – Winner: Shaylin Holt, Runner up: Lilliana McFarlane
Men’s Singles – Winner: Eoin Swan, Runner up: Bob Ainsley
As always thanks to everyone who came down to support the players. There was a fantastic atmosphere and great sportsmanship all round. Thanks also to Nick as our guest of honour for presenting the winners with their trophies and to Caroline for buying the flowers and prizes for the competitors.
Some spectacular matches were played, with many marathon battles being fought well into the evening. Hoping for more brilliant matches next year!
2023 Padel Club Championships

The inaugural Padel Club Championships (mostly) drew to a conclusion in the Hatton sunshine. The day started with a 3 set battle in the over 50’s final with Simon Appleyard & Ian Power overcoming Duncan McCaig & Paul Dale 6-3 3-6 6-2. The Open Final came next and this followed a similar pattern as Justine Clark & Fraser Swan fought back to set up a deciding set. Andrew Ibbetson & Craig McBride eventually prevailed 6-3 4-6 6-2. In the Hatton Padel Championship Steve Stanton and Adrien Catte took the title over two time finalist Paul Dale who was this time partnering Michael Barclay. Well done to all finalists and congratulations to the champions.
Due to a late finish in the tennis and the fading light it was decided that the Ladies Final should be postponed. This will be rescheduled in due course when Sandra McBride & Shaylin Holt will play Caroline Newton & Sybil Booth.
Huge thanks to all who participated and made the club championships a success. For many this was a first experience of competitive padel. We would like to continue offering these opportunities to all members with registration for box leagues coming soon. Hope to see members of the padel community as well as those newer to the sport sign up.
